Neutralization is the reaction in which acid H⁺ and base OH⁻ meet to form water (H₂O); overall, acid + base → water + salt. The neutralization point is where the numbers of H⁺ and OH⁻ are equal, and because the reaction is exothermic the temperature is highest there.
