Mnemonic

日 rì "day" + 渐 jiàn "gradually": day by day, gradually, i.e. increasingly with each passing day. Korean renders it as "day by day, daily". An adverb for a trend changing slowly over time (日渐成熟 maturing day by day). It is followed by a verb of change. It is nearly interchangeable with 日趋, but 日渐 expresses gradual change a touch more softly. 渐 means "gradually" (逐渐 gradually); 日 means "day, sun".
