Understanding Decimals

A decimal shows a part smaller than 1. Split 1 into ten equal pieces and one piece is 0.1, and the decimal point separates the whole-number part from the fraction part. Three 0.1s make 0.3, the same size as the fraction 3/10. On this page you can change the number and see where a decimal sits on the number line and on the bar.
