grade 2 Time & Calendar

A time tells you what hour and minute it is now, and elapsed time tells you how long has passed in between. On a clock, the short hand points to the hour and the long hand to the minutes, and adding a.m. or p.m. tells you exactly when in the day it is. A day has 24 hours, an hour has 60 minutes, a week has 7 days, and a year has 12 months. Pick an hour and minute to read the clock, then add elapsed time to a start time of 8:30 to see when it ends.

💡 How to read a clock
①The last number the short hand has passed is the hour
②Each small mark the long hand points to is 1 minute, and each number is 5 minutes
③Long hand on 12 means o'clock; on 6 means 30 minutes
④If you pick an hour above 12, the time under the clock is read as p.m.: 13 is 1 p.m.
