題 is a phono-semantic character: 頁 (head) for meaning and 是 (right) for sound. 頁 means head or forehead, and the "forehead" of a text is its title — from which grew "title, heading, topic, question." It shares the 頁 (head) radical with 頭 seen earlier.

The simplified form is 题, with 頁 reduced to the simplified head 页 — the form splits by mode.

Korean hanja-sound "je": 題目 (jemok, title), 問題 (munje, problem / question), 主題 (juje, theme), 宿題 (sukje, homework), 話題 (hwaje, topic of talk), 課題 (gwaje, task), 出題 (chulje, setting exam questions). It is the character in school 宿題 (homework) and exam 出題.

Mandarin: tí, 2nd tone. 问题 (wèntí, problem / question), 题目 (tímù, title), 主题 (zhǔtí, theme), 话题 (huàtí, topic), 标题 (biāotí, headline), 难题 (nántí, a hard problem). 问题 (wèntí, problem) is one of the most frequent everyday Mandarin words.

Japanese: on-reading ダイ (dai) — no kun-reading (on-only). 題 (dai, title), 問題 (mondai, problem), 宿題 (shukudai, homework), 話題 (wadai, topic), 主題 (shudai, theme), 題名 (daimei, title). A Japanese student's 宿題 (shukudai, homework) carries this character.

Memory aid: a head (頁) plus right (是) — the forehead of a text, hence title and question.
