dialogue
/ˈdaɪəlɒɡ/·다이얼로그·noun
a conversation between two or more people
GreekCEFR B1
Root
dia- (through, between) + Greek 'logos' (word)
Greek dialogos (conversation) → Latin dialogus → Old French dialoge → English dialogue
In a word
dia- (between) + logos (word) = 'words moving between two people'. Swap dia- for mono- (alone) and you get monologue. Put pro- (before) in front, you get prologue; epi- (after), epilogue. The logos flows between mouths, and the prefix records who is talking to whom.
