Mnemonic

分かれる wakareru — kanji 分 + the ichidan ending れる. Intransitive: a road or opinions split on their own, subject marked by が, no を object. Its transitive partner is the P3 anchor 分ける (wakeru). 道が分かれる / 道を分ける form a pair. Note 別れる (to part from a person) sounds the same but is a different kanji and meaning.
