Mnemonic

嬉しい ureshii — an i-adjective; the kanji 嬉 weaves 女 (woman) with 喜 (joy). It is the reaction of joy an event stirs inside me — glad to receive a gift. If 楽しい is the enjoyment of an activity itself, 嬉しい is the response to a happening. With the opposite 悲しい it stands at the two ends of one axis. Kanji-reading kin: 喜 reads Korean 'hui' (歡喜), Mandarin xǐ.
