Mnemonic

天気 tenki — 天 (sky) + 気 (vital air): "the energy of the heavens" — and that is the weather. 気 is the kanji that bears state and spirit — it lives in 元気 and in 病気 alike. Reading the sky's energy in advance is 天気予報, the weather forecast. Two kanji make the invisible drift of the atmosphere graspable in the hand. Kanji-reading kin: 天 reads Korean 'cheon', Mandarin tiān.
