見つける mitsukeru — 見る (to see) + つける. It is transitive: to find or discover something. Its intransitive partner is 見つかる (mitsukaru, to be found). Note the contrast with 探す (sagasu), which is the process of searching; 見つける is the result. They chain: 探して見つける.
