決して kesshite — from 決 (to decide), the same kanji as 決める and 決まる (K-71). It always pairs with a negative to mean "never, by no means": 決して忘れない (will never forget). It cannot be used in an affirmative sentence; it is a negative-polarity adverb that strengthens the denial.
