必要 hitsuyou — 必 (certainly, must) + 要 (to need, essential). What must be there — necessary. A na-adjective: 必要な before a noun; the pattern 〜する必要がある (there is a need to ~) is very common. 必 is the same kanji as in K-76's 必ず.
