Mnemonic

ドア doa — the English "door" taken in whole as a loanword, yet the door is never just one. The Western swing door is ドア, Japan's traditional sliding door is 引き戸, and in formal and poetic places the old kanji 扉 quietly keeps the gate. Paper-woven 障子 and 襖 still live on in the narrow city home, and 扉 opens too as a metaphor — 心の扉, the door of the heart.
