Mnemonic

Asa — 朝, morning. The sound is Yamato, a deep word for time. The kanji 朝 is the same in Korean "jo" (morning news, jogan). The character itself: sun rising through grass beside a moon — meet it again in Mandarin Roots. The greeting "ohayou" carries this very 朝 inside. The start of a day, made into a word.
