Mnemonic
Yo (よ) is the Japanese sentence-final particle for assertion / emphasis / news-delivery — like English "..., you know! / I tell you! / really!" Core uses: (1) delivering new information ("ame desu yo!" it's raining! — informing); (2) emphatic assertion ("oishii yo!" so tasty!); (3) urging / prompting ("ikimasu yo" let's go, "hayaku shite yo!" hurry up!); (4) confirmation ("ii yo" sure / fine). Opposite of ne: ne shares / asks agreement; yo asserts / delivers news. Overuse signals condescension or pressure — handle with care in business or polite speech. Casual sentence-final clusters: "da yo," "da yo ne," "da yo?" Rougher male forms include "da ze," "da zo" (frequent in anime / drama). Soft female forms include "no yo," "wa yo," "kashira yo." Korean -ya / -eyo / -indeyo and Chinese 哦 / 呀 / 啊 / 噢 map.
