Mnemonic

Ugoku (動く) is a godan intransitive — "to move / to work / to operate." Paired transitive: ugokasu (動かす). Hito ga ugoku (a person moves), kikai ga ugoku (a machine works), shijou ga ugoku (the market moves, abstract). The negative ugokanai is heavily used — PC ga ugokanai (computer won't boot), ashi ga ugokanai (legs immobile from injury / paralysis), kimochi ga ugokanai (no emotional response). Metaphor extends: kokoro ga ugoku (the heart moves = moved / interested), yoron ga ugoku (public opinion shifts). Wider semantic field than Korean um-jik-ida.
