Mnemonic

体 karada — body in general. Kanji forms 体 and 身体 share the reading (身体 is more formal). Farewell formula "体に気をつけて" ("take care of your body") functions as a polite goodbye, especially in cold seasons or before travel. Onyomi たい (tai): 体育 (taiiku, PE), 体力 (tairyoku, physical strength), 体重 (body weight), 身体 (shintai, formal "body"). Kanji 体 = 人 (person) + 本 (root) = "the root of a person = body". Japanese school 体育 pairs with ラジオ体操 (radio gymnastics). Body cognition + education + greeting system.
