Mnemonic

会社 kaisha — kanji "gather (会) + association/shrine (社)" = a social unit where people gather = a company. Same kanji in Korean hoesa and Chinese gōngsī (reversed order: 公司). In Japanese society the company is more than a workplace: while 終身雇用 (lifetime employment) has weakened, the slang 社畜 (shachiku, "company livestock") shows how deeply corporate identity still shapes social discourse. Cluster: 社長 (shachou, president), 社員 (shain, employee), 社会 (shakai, society) — 社 is a core community kanji.
