~てください

RuleVerb te-form + kudasai: please do (polite request).

Curiosity

How do you politely ask someone to do something?

Intuition

The te-form hooks the action onto kudasai ("please give"). Literally you request the action as a favor: "please give me [the doing]".

Visualization

matsu → matte → matte kudasai. Once you have the te-form, kudasai just attaches.

待つdictionary form

Essence

A polite request. A negative request ("please do not") is naide kudasai. Among close people you may drop kudasai and use te alone.
