Mnemonic

终 zhōng "end" + 究 jiū "to get to the bottom": when all is followed to the end, i.e. in the end, after all, ultimately. Korean renders it as "in the end, after all". An adverb stressing that something turns out a certain way despite the process (终究会成功 will succeed in the end). It is akin to 毕竟 (after all) and 终于 (finally), but 终究 carries the sense of inevitably ending up that way. 终 means "end" (终点 terminus); 究 means "to get to the bottom" (究竟).
