Mnemonic

振 zhèn "to rouse, shake" + 奋 fèn "to rouse, exert": both mean to rouse up, i.e. to be roused in spirit, heartened, invigorated. Korean renders it as "to be heartened, invigorated". Spirits rising with energy at good news or events (振奋人心 to hearten people, 精神振奋 in high spirits). It is the opposite-direction feeling from 沮丧 (dejection). 振 means "to rouse, shake" (振动, 振兴); 奋 means "to rouse, exert" (奋斗, 兴奋). Both intransitive and transitive.
