踏 tà "to step on, tread" + 实 shí "solid, real": treading solidly on the ground, i.e. steady, down-to-earth, reassured. Korean renders it as "steady, dependable, at ease". Two shades: a working attitude that is "grounded and steady" (做事踏实) and a mind that is "settled, free of anxiety" (心里踏实). It depicts a solid, unflighty manner. 踏 means "to step on" (踏步, 脚踏实地); 实 means "solid, real" (实在, 诚实).
