思 sī "thought" + 路 lù "road": "train of thought, reasoning". The road (路) thought (思) travels, i.e. the flow of reasoning. 理清思路 (to sort out one’s reasoning), 思路清晰 (clear reasoning). Unlike 思想 (the content of thought), 思路 is the direction in which thinking proceeds. Akin to 条理.
