司 sī "to take charge of" + 法 fǎ "law": to administer the law, i.e. the judiciary, judicial. Same as the Korean word sa-beop (司法). It refers to the state function of applying the law to adjudicate (司法机关 judicial organs, 司法公正 judicial fairness). Along with legislation (立法) and administration (行政), it is one of the three powers (三权). 司 means "to take charge of" (司令, 公司); 法 means "law". It is the same 司 as in 司机 (driver), used differently.
