求 qiú "to seek" + 证 zhèng "proof, to prove": to seek proof, i.e. to verify, to seek confirmation. Korean renders it as "to verify, confirm". Seeking evidence to confirm whether a statement or piece of information is true (向当事人求证 to seek confirmation from the parties, 有待求证 yet to be verified). Unlike 论证 (proving a claim), 求证 focuses on seeking evidence to confirm whether something is factual. 求 means "to seek" (请求, 寻求); 证 means "proof" (证明, 验证).
