Mnemonic

亲 qīn "close, dear" + 密 mì "dense, close": close and tightly intimate, i.e. intimate, close. Same as the Korean word chin-mil (親密). A state of people being very close and warm (亲密关系 a close relationship, 亲密无间 inseparably close). Its opposite is 疏远 (estranged), the pair 密 "close" against 疏 "sparse". 亲 means "close, parent" (亲人, 亲切); 密 means "dense, close" (密切, 秘密).
