目 mù "item" + 录 lù "to record": a Sino-Korean word "catalog, table of contents". A record (录) of items (目) in order. ① a table of contents (查目录) ② a catalog of materials or goods (图书目录). An overview arranged so content is found at a glance; unlike 索引 (a word-location index), 目录 is the overview of the whole order. Similar to 清单.
