Mnemonic

名 míng "name" + 誉 yù "to praise, honor": the good repute attached to one’s name, i.e. reputation, honor, good name. Same as the Korean word myeong-ye (名譽). The good name and reputation a person or group earns in society (维护名誉 to protect one’s reputation, 名誉受损 reputation damaged, 名誉权 the right to reputation). Close to 荣誉 (honor won by achievement), but 名誉 focuses on a good name to be protected (and legally protected). 名 means "name" (名字, 名声); 誉 means "to praise, honor" (荣誉, 赞誉).
