连 lián "to link" + 续 xù "to continue": both mean "to join"; together "continuously, in a row", with no break. 连续剧 = a TV serial. Contrast 陆续: 连续 is unbroken, 陆续 is one after another with gaps. Opposite of 间断 (to break off).
