Mnemonic

库 kù "storehouse" + 存 cún "to remain, exist": what remains in the warehouse, i.e. stock, inventory. Same idea as the Korean word jae-go (在庫) but with the characters in reverse order (Chinese 库存 vs Korean 在庫). Goods left unsold in storage. 库 is the 库 of 仓库 and 水库.
