课 kè "lesson/subject" + 程 chéng "course": a Sino-Korean word "course, curriculum". A course (程) of arranged lessons (课), i.e. a curriculum. 必修课程 (required course), 课程表 (timetable). Unlike 教材 (the material/book), 课程 is the arrangement of what is learned in what order. Also distinct from 学科 (a discipline). Similar to 科目.
