公 gōng "public, shared" + 寓 yù "to lodge, reside": a dwelling where many lodge together, i.e. an apartment. Korean renders it as "apartment, collective housing" (using the English loanword). It refers to a multi-unit building where several households live (公寓楼 an apartment building, 单身公寓 a studio). It contrasts with 别墅 (a detached villa). 公 means "public, shared" (公共, 公园); 寓 means "to lodge, attach" (寓所, 寓言). Unlike Korean a-pa-teu (an English loan), this is a Sino word.
