高 gāo "high" + 估 gū "to estimate": to estimate high, i.e. to overestimate. Korean renders it as "to overestimate". Reckoning ability, value or returns higher than they really are (高估自己 to overestimate oneself). Its opposite is 低估 (to underestimate), the pair 高 "high" against 低 "low". 估 means "to estimate" (估计 to reckon, 估价 to appraise).
