复 fù "again" + 兴 xīng "to rise, flourish": to rise and flourish again, i.e. to revive, to rejuvenate. Same as the Korean word bu-heung (復興). A declined nation, economy or culture flourishing again (民族复兴 national revival). 文艺复兴 is the European Renaissance. It shares 复 with 复活, but 复兴 focuses on the recovery of prosperity. 兴 is a polyphone: xīng "to flourish" but xìng "interest, mood".
