法 fǎ "law" + 令 lìng "order, decree": an order issued as law, i.e. a decree, statutes and ordinances. Same as the Korean word beop-ryeong (法令). A formal term covering the laws and orders promulgated by a state or government (颁布法令 to promulgate a decree). 法 means "law" (法律, 法规); 令 means "order, to command" (命令, 指令). 令 originally means "command", as in 司令 (commander), 法令. It stresses norms with public legal force.
