段 duàn "section" + 落 luò "division": a Sino-Korean word "paragraph". A section (段) of text grouped as one idea. 划分段落 (to divide into paragraphs), 段落大意 (the gist of a paragraph). Where 层次 is the larger logical structure, 段落 is one chunk of it. Also used as 告一段落, "to reach a stopping point" in work.
