撤 chè "to withdraw" + 销 xiāo "to cancel, dissolve": to withdraw and cancel, i.e. to revoke, to rescind. Korean renders it as "to cancel, revoke". It is used of undoing a decision, order or qualification already made (撤销决定, 撤销职务). It shares 撤 with 撤退 (retreat), but 撤销 centers on canceling a decision or its effect. 销 means "to cancel, melt down" (注销 to cancel a registration, 销毁 to destroy).
