Sentence structure

Key sentences split into meaning units, showing the role of each part.

起床以后,我先喝了一杯热牛奶,然后换上运动鞋,去公园跑步。
Modifier起床以后time clause (after getting up)
SubjectI
Predicate先喝了一杯热牛奶first drank a cup (xian + verb + le)
Connective然后then
Predicate换上运动鞋put on running shoes
Predicate去公园跑步go to the park to run (serial verbs)

To line up several actions in time order, Chinese frames them with "xian ... ranhou ..." (first ..., then ...). "le" shows that "he" (drank) is complete, and the measure word "bei" counts cups. "qu gongyuan paobu" is a serial-verb construction (qu + paobu) sharing one subject: "go and run" as a single flow.

虽然有点儿累,但是我很开心。
Connective虽然although
Clause有点儿累a bit tired (youdianr + adj)
Connective但是but
SubjectI
Predicate很开心happy (adjectival predicate)

For concession, Chinese keeps both connectives "suiran ... danshi ..." (English uses only one of although/but). "youdianr" adds a slightly unwanted degree: "a bit (tired)". Both "lei" and "kaixin" are adjectives acting directly as the predicate.
