grade 1 Our Body

Inside our body are organs that work nonstop where we cannot see them. The brain inside the head thinks and gives orders to the body, the heart in the chest sends blood all around the body, and the lungs take in oxygen from the air we breathe in. The bones hold the body up and wrap around important organs such as the brain, heart and lungs to protect them. Pick an organ in the picture to see where it sits in the body and what it does.

🧠 Brain: where we think and give orders
①The brain sits inside the hard skull
②It thinks, remembers and sends orders all over the body
③When you think "I'll raise my hand", a signal from the brain makes the arm muscles move and your hand goes up
❤️ Heart: a pump that never rests
①The heart is in the middle of the chest, a little to the left, and is about the size of your fist
②It beats about 100,000 times a day, sending blood all around the body
③Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body

🫁 Lungs: where air goes in and out
①There is one lung on each side of the chest, and they fill up when we breathe in

🦴 Bones: the body's frame
①An adult has about 206 bones; a baby has more, and some of them join together as the child grows
②Without bones we could not stand, and the skull and ribs wrap around the brain, heart and lungs to protect them
③Cells that make up the blood are also made inside bones
