Numbers up to 9

Counting to Nine

Counting means giving each thing a number, one at a time. As you point to apples and count one, two, three, the last number you say tells how many there are in all. The numbers 1 to 9 come in a fixed order, so you always know what comes just before or after, and zero means nothing at all. Here you add apples one by one with the slider, then compare two groups of stars with the greater-than and less-than signs.

Example 1
Write all the numbers between 3 and 6, in order.

A number is 1 less than 7. What is it, and is it greater or less than 5?
